Brett Pulliam
Associate Director of Counseling and Enrollment
Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program Seton Hall University

Title of the position you wish to run for: Vice President

Bio: Brett Pulliam currently serves as the Associate Director of Counseling and Enrollment Services for the Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program (PMPDPP) at Seton Hall University. The PMPDP Program is a specialized four-year undergraduate program funded through the State of New Jersey’s Educational Opportunity Fund Program that prepares students to go into the field of medicine, dentistry, or the allied health professions.   As Associate Director, he engages in enrollment activities (recruitment, admissions, financial aid) and is responsible for retention (academic, personal, and career counseling) for students within the program. Brett has held various positions within the Educational Opportunity Fund Professional Association; Sector-Representative, Parliamentarian, and currently serves as Treasurer of the organization. Brett also serves as Treasurer for the Tri-State Consortium of Opportunity Programs. Prior to working at Seton Hall, Brett served as an account specialist for HSBC, a major financial institution .Brett is happily married to Nicole Pulliam, an EOF alum, and they recently welcomed a baby girl, Ava Faith into the EOF family on January 20, 2015.

Statement of Interest: I am interested in running for the position of Vice President of the Educational Opportunity Fund Professional Association. From the moment I was approached and asked if I would be interested in assisting with the Fall Conference planning in 2005, I knew I found something special.  As an active member of the Association for the past nine years, I have worked with many wonderful professionals who have helped mold and guide me, personally and professionally. During my time with the Board, I have chaired; Fall conferences, the Counselor Training Institute (CTI), served on several CTI committees, assisted with several student Day-at-the Capitol events, and served as registration chairperson for multiple Spring Conferences and Fall Conferences.  The professional association does a great deal to enhance the support that each and every professional across the State of New Jersey provides their students.  I would love to continue to serve an organization that promotes learning and stimulates intellectual and professional growth for its professionals.  As Vice President, my goal is to work with the board in order to engage new members of the organization so they can also experience that special moment that I had.  I am also interested in working with seasoned professionals to develop a mentorship program for new members.  As an organization we have decades of experienced professionals preparing to retire from their positions.  It would be in the organizations best interest to ensure that experience does not go to waste. To run an organization it takes work. It takes a strong group of individuals to work together towards a common goal. This is what I have always known the EOFPANJ to be and it is something I wish to continue.

Title of the position you wish to run for: Treasurer

Brief professional bio:
Farah Pelissier graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science. She holds two Master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Student Affairs (M.A.) and Business Management (M.S.) from The College of Saint Elizabeth.

Farah serves on the Executive Board of the Educational Opportunity Fund Professional Association of New Jersey (EOFPANJ) as the co-advisor of the Statewide Alliance of Educational Opportunity Fund Students of NJ (AESNJ) and assists EOFPANJ in a variety of capacities.  Farah was on the board of directors of the YWCA of Essex and West Hudson County from 2010-214 serving as chair of the Nomination Committee and member of Program Development committee.  Farah is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Gamma Omicron Zeta Chapter served as chair of Finer Womanhood Committee from 2012-2014, and is a member of the scholarship committee and member of the handbook committee.

Farah co-presented at the Educational Opportunity Fund Professional Association of New Jersey, Inc. 2012 Fall Conference on the Start-up Process for Mentoring programs, 2013 Fall Conference and 2014 CTI on Scholarship Search Beyond the First Year of College. Since 2008, Farah has facilitated workshops for high school seniors on College Preparation at Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Newark, NJ.

Statement of interest:

I am excited to accept the nomination to run for treasurer. I have been a member of the professional association since 2008 and an executive board member since 2011. I am motivated to work on supporting our efforts for continued funding of professional development and raising funds for student scholarships.

As a board member for the past four years, I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work alongside colleagues in various professional efforts and activities. I accepted the nomination for treasurer because I believe I have a number of valuable qualities I would bring to the position.

First, I am currently the advisor to the Statewide Alliance of EOF Students (AESNJ). I manage the finances of the yearly budget and severed as Co-chair to the 2014 fall conference.  My experience with the association would allow me to step into the role quickly.

Secondly, as a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Gamma Omicron Zeta Chapter, I served as chair of the Finer Womanhood Committee for two years. During that position, I developed our yearly budget, streamlined the proposal process, set-up standardize criteria for the awards recipients, and developed procedures for the decision making process for awards.

Finally, my professional home has been housed in EOF since the beginning of my graduate study. I can’t think of a better way to continue integrating my passion for the EOF community and dedication to the profession than through the association.

The opportunity to be more involved in the association by following Brett Pulliam as treasurer, with the solid budgeting he leaves behind, would be an honor.

Interest in serving the Association:  My service to the Association has been very fulfilling. It has kept me abreast of all activities related to our programs.  I have also enjoyed working with an enthusiastic group of professionals whose goal has been to make sure that the programs are up-to-date on issues that affect our students and our leadership in various roles.  I feel that the work of the Board is of a philanthropic nature and serves as a conduit in connecting to political bodies, community organizations, corporations and a means for the members to share best practice initiatives with all programs.  The EOFPA is one of the most respected programs in the State of NJ when it comes to advocating for support of students served by the campus programs.  The Board has proven to be the “strong arm” for our programs longevity in the State and has secured its future by serving in a professional capacity and a pipeline for dispersing services.

If chosen to serve in this role, again, I pledge to continue doing my best to keep the image and integrity of the Association as it serves our constituencies.

As a CSE girl Iris engrossed herself in many on campus leadership opportunities.  Upon graduation she learned of an opening as a Student Development Specialist at Centenary College’s EOP program. Iris felt right at home working one on one with EOF students and helping them achieve their personal and academic goals. In 2008 she got the pleasure to join the conference planning board for the American Conference on Diversity. From there she felt confident enough to take the lead and chair numerous committees throughout the years. She has been a conference chair for the Counselor Training Institute held at Georgian Court University since 2012.  Also, in 2012 she chaired the Moderator Committee for the Spring Conference and in 2014 she took on her biggest challenge and co-chaired the Fall Conference.  On top of her duties with the current EOFPANJ board Iris is active on her campus community as the advisor for the Latin American Student Organization and a member of the Diversity Inclusion Committee.

Iris is looking forward to continuing her work on the EOFPANJ board as the Corresponding Secretary. She is well aware of the work that goes into the position and welcomes the new challenges that she knows will come. She looks forward to continuing to grow in the organization and being a part of something that benefits so many, “new jerseyans.” Iris has always believed in the mission of EOF and understands the work that is entailed when it comes to making change happen.  When ask what motivates her she always replies with the same Dr. Seuss quote, “Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered.”
